Qatari Newspapers Emphasize Qatar’s Role in Regional Stability

Doha: In their editorials on Thursday, Qatari newspapers highlighted a number of emerging issues on both the local and international fronts. Foremost among these was the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar in de-escalating tensions and promoting stability in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers reiterated the State of Qatar's condemnation and rejection of the Iranian attacks on civilian targets in the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Bahrain, which stems from Qatar's firm belief that the security of these two countries is an integral part of the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

On the domestic front, the newspapers praised the successes achieved by Qatar Foundation in developing the education and scientific research system, affirming that investment in human capital and knowledge is the cornerstone of sustainable development. In its editorial, Al-Watan newspaper highlighted the telephone call received yesterday by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani from HE President of the United States of America Donald Trump, emphasizing that the call reflects Qatar's pivotal role in efforts to reduce tensions and promote stability in the region.

The newspaper said that Doha is making significant efforts to contain the escalation through all available means. It noted that during the call, His Highness stressed the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions and encouraging dialogue among all parties in a manner that contributes to strengthening regional security and stability. It explained that the call reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East and the regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation and enhancing stability. It also underscored the importance of continuing dialogue channels to address current issues, while emphasizing the need to safeguard maritime security, ensure the safety of strategic waterways, and maintain the smooth flow of global supply and energy chains.

It further noted that since the beginning of the crisis, the State of Qatar has undertaken major efforts that have been widely appreciated by the international community. Qatar continues these efforts with determination and courage, driven by its firm belief in political and diplomatic solutions as the best way to address all issues, no matter how complex or challenging they may appear. Al-Watan concluded its editorial by stating that this pivotal role played by His Highness and the State of Qatar once again demonstrates that there is no alternative to serious and constructive dialogue. It expressed hope that these efforts will succeed in restoring security and stability to the region and the world as a whole.

For its part, the Al-Sharq newspaper, in its editorial, highlighted the State of Qatar's condemnation and rejection of the Iranian attacks on civilian targets in the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Bahrain, including those targeting Kuwait International Airport, which resulted in significant damage to several of its facilities and caused deaths and injuries. The editorial stated that the State of Qatar's position stems from its firm belief that the security of Bahrain and Kuwait is an integral part of the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and that the GCC states stand united in confronting these attacks. It fully supports all measures and actions taken by the two countries to defend their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, especially since these attacks constitute a serious violation of the sovereignty of both countries and a blatant breach of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, as well as the principles of international humanitarian law.

It added that, based on its conviction of the need to spare the region the consequences of unjustified attacks and to work towards de-escalation to restore regional and international security and stability, the State of Qatar continues its intensive diplomatic efforts to coordinate initiatives aimed at supporting mediation efforts to reduce tensions, thereby contributing to strengthening security and stability in the region.
