In turn, Al-Sharq said that the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, supported by the majority of its members, endorsing Palestine’s right to full membership in the UN, reaffirms the international community’s belief and conviction in the Palestinian right. It noted that 143 countries voted in favor of the resolution, which considered the State of Palestine eligible for full UN membership in accordance with Article 4 of the Charter, with renewed emphasis on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, their right to establish their independent state, maintaining the unity of all occupied Palestinian territory, and the withdrawal of the Israeli entity from the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

The newspaper called on the international community to make renewed and coordinated efforts to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories promptly and to achieve a fair, permanent, and peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the Israeli-Pale
stinian conflict in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 2334 of 2016, the Madrid terms of reference, including the principle of land for peace, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the two-state solution.

Al-Sharq pointed out that the State of Qatar, based on its firm position in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, hopes that the Security Council will respond to the General Assembly’s recommendation and the international will and consensus expressed by the vote on the resolution.

Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the Security Council, especially the permanent member states, faces a historic responsibility and stands at a crossroads: either to respond to the international consensus, or to expose the Council to further shakes in its credibility and trust as an institution reflecting the international will.

For its part, the English-language newspaper The Peninsula noted that Doha hosted leading athletes including Olympic, Worl

The Peninsula concluded by saying that following the fantastic athletics extravaganza, football fans will be in for a delightful treat this week with thrilling action as the Amir Cup quarter-finals are set to take
place this week.
