In turn, Al-Sharq said that the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, supported by the majority of its members, endorsing Palestine’s right to full membership in the UN, reaffirms the international community’s belief and conviction in the Palestinian right. Al-Sharq pointed out that the State of Qatar, based on its firm position in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, hopes that the Security Council will respond to the General Assembly’s recommendation and the international will and consensus expressed by the vote on the resolution.
Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the Security Council, especially the permanent member states, faces a historic responsibility and stands at a crossroads: either to respond to the international consensus, or to expose the Council to further shakes in its credibility and trust as an institution reflecting the international will.
