Doha: Qatari newspapers focused their Sunday editorials on major local and international developments, led by the widespread condemnation from Qatar and fellow Arab states regarding the drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's East-West crude pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions. It also highlighted Qatar's hosting of the 6th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Convention Against Corruption later this month, reflecting Qatar's active role in supporting international anti-corruption efforts and promoting good governance, in alignment with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Watan stated that the State of Qatar, along with several Gulf and Arab nations, condemned in the strongest terms the targeting of the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by multiple drones, an attack that resulted in casualties and material damage. It referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement, which emphasized that targeting civilian and economic infrastructure represents a blatant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation threatening regional stability. The Ministry expressed the State of Qatar's full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures necessary to protect its sovereignty, security, and vital facilities.
Al-Watan stressed that such treacherous attacks violate religious, legal, and humanitarian standards, noting the Houthi group's history of targeting civilian assets in Saudi Arabia and disrupting commercial shipping in the Red Sea. Al-Watan concluded that although Saudi Arabia affirmed its right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and facilities, it chose not to respond at this stage to support the Iraqi government's efforts following a request by the Iraqi Prime Minister. This highly commendable stance underscores the paramount importance of restraint at this moment.
Al-Sharq stated that attacking civilian and economic infrastructure remains entirely unacceptable under any pretext, as it directly threatens vital state interests and public safety. Against this backdrop, Qatar strongly condemned the drone attack, launched from Iraqi territory against the East-West pipeline. This reflects its unwavering policy against any targeting of vital civilian infrastructure.
Al-Sharq affirmed that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are integral to Qatar's own security. The paper emphasized that critical energy infrastructure must remain entirely detached from military and political conflicts. Al-Sharq concluded that in line with its consistent commitment to dialogue, de-escalation, and preventing the region from sliding into open conflict, Qatar commends the responsible and wise approach adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the Iraqi government's efforts to prevent its territory from being used for attacks against neighboring states.
