Qatari Newspaper Editorials -1-

In its editorial titled “A license for escalation,” Al Watan newspaper stated that the United States’ use of its veto power against an Algerian-drafted resolution recommending Palestine’s admission to the United Nations contradicts its stated support for a two-state solution and defies the will of the international community, which strongly supports Palestine’s full UN membership.

The newspaper added that the American veto cannot be understood except in the context of unlimited support for the Israeli entity. In reality, this support has led to what we are witnessing today in Gaza and the Palestinian territories, including what Washington insists it has no evidence of, despite more than enough coverage by international television stations revealing the truth of the crimes being committed.

The paper asserted that the US veto can only be understood as a reflection of its unwavering support for Israel. It added that this unwavering support has led to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and the Palestinian territori
es, which the US insists it has no evidence of, despite the wide international television stations coverage revealing the truth of the crimes being committed.

The newspaper pointed out that the Israeli occupation army has destroyed over 80 percent of educational facilities in Gaza, completely or partially, in addition to killing 5,479 students and injuring 7,819 others, killing 261 teachers and injuring 756 others, and depriving 625,000 students of education. This is alongside the destruction of 13 public libraries and the central archive of Gaza containing documents dating back 150 years, as well as committing heinous massacres against civilians, resulting in the martyrdom of 33,970 people and the injury of 76,770.

The editorial concluded by stating that the veto, in all these contexts, can only be seen as a license for further escalation, which is disgraceful and entirely unacceptable to the international community as a whole.
