I am very pleased that we made CheMET-II a successful event with numerous attendees from the five continents”.

Qatar University excels at the regional and international levels in higher education and research, especially in directing research towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One significant step was to establish the UNESCO Chair in Desalination and Water Treatment in QU, which is the first of its kind in the Gulf region under the UNESCO Chair and UNITWIN programs. In addition, at QU, we recognized sustainability as our guidepost for building a thriving future. The zero-waste plan outlines QU’s proposed commitment, the process of change, priorities, goals, targets and activities that will allow us to reach the SDGs. Research grants mainly come from the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), QU Internal Grants and extensive industrial collaborations that generate stable research funds, ranking our university among Qatar’s highest earners. Among those grants is the QU Students Grant, which encourages SDGs research culture and develops research capacity by enhancing the research experience of undergraduate and graduate students. Using its four research pillars (Energy and Environment, Health and Biomedical Sciences, Information and Communication Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities) to emphasize interdisciplinary research, Qatar University aligns with the SDGs as part of its latest transformation strategy.
