Qatar to Host Second World Summit on Social Development


Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the pre-summit briefing for the Second World Summit on Social Development, which is scheduled to be held in Doha from November 4 to 6, 2025. The State of Qatar was represented at the briefing by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, alongside HE President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock.



According to Qatar News Agency, HE Sheikha Alya Al-Thani emphasized that Qatar, as the host country, is honored to welcome the international community and over 8,000 representatives from various sectors to the summit. The event aims to renew global commitment to social justice and highlight the importance of placing human beings at the core of sustainable development efforts.



Sheikha Alya Al-Thani noted that the summit, occurring thirty years after the Copenhagen Conference, is a crucial opportunity to reaffirm dedication to social development and inclusion, and to expedite progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The summit will conclude with the adoption of the “Doha Political Declaration,” which emphasizes the importance of eradicating poverty, ensuring decent work, and achieving social inclusion as key components of sustainable development.



Her Excellency expressed confidence that the summit will lead to practical commitments and pledges enhancing social justice and empowering vulnerable groups on an international scale.



HE President of the 80th UNGA, Annalena Baerbock, acknowledged Qatar’s significant role in advancing international development. She stated that the summit occurs at a critical time, requiring intensified efforts to tackle poverty, inequality, and promote social justice. The event aims to launch a new phase of international cooperation, turning commitments into practical actions through strengthened partnerships among governments, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector.



The United Nations appreciates Qatar for hosting the summit, which is expected to yield actionable solutions that address poverty’s root causes and advance social justice and development globally.
