Doha: After defeating Sri Lanka 3-1 in the Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025, Qatar has qualified for the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals 2026 to be held in London.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar’s journey in the tournament witnessed Mohammed Abdulwahab losing the opening match to Sri Lanka’s Mohamed Mohamed in five sets (9-11, 11-4, 9-11, 12-10, 6-11). However, Abdullah Abdulwahab managed to level the score by defeating Chameera Ginige in four sets (11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6).
Rawad Al Nasser further strengthened Qatar’s position by securing a 3-1 win over Nimesh Ranchagoda (5-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-9). The victory was sealed by Mohammed Abdulwahab, who defeated Chameera Ginige in straight sets (11-2, 11-3, 11-5), resulting in a 3-1 overall win for Qatar.
Qatar is now competing for rankings between the 12th and 15th place and is set to face Uzbekistan tomorrow. In the group stage, Qatar began with a 3-1 victory over Nepal and a 3-0 win against Bangladesh, before suffering a 0-3 defeat to Thailand. This result placed Qatar second in the group, behind Thailand, who advanced to the knockout rounds, while Qatar continued in the classification rounds.
Qualifying for the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals 2026 stands as a significant achievement for Qatari table tennis, highlighting its development and strong presence in continental competitions.
