London:Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has been recognized as the 'Worldwide Operator of the Year' at the 2026 Global Light Rail Awards. The accolade highlights the company's resilience and operational efficiency, exceptional safety and service standards, and dedication to innovation and sustainability within the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks.
According to Qatar News Agency, the award was received by Qatar Rail's CEO, Jassim Mohammed Al Ansari, and senior management members during a ceremony held in London. Al Ansari noted that the achievement underscores Qatar Rail's status among the leading rail operators globally and reflects the commitment to operational excellence. He emphasized that the results across the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks demonstrate the efficiency and progress of Qatar's rail infrastructure.
Al Ansari further stated that the recognition brings with it a responsibility to continue innovating and enhancing customer experiences while investing in national talent and strengthening partnerships. These efforts aim to support the ongoing development of Qatar's rail network in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Chief of Service Delivery, Eng. Ahmad Mohammed Al Saleh, remarked that the award is a testament to Qatar Rail's focus on operational safety and customer service, bolstered by smart technologies and modern management approaches. The company successfully maintained uninterrupted services, meeting high safety and reliability standards even during major events like the FIFA Arab Cup 2025.
In 2026, Qatar Rail achieved an average daily ridership of 200,000 passengers, continuing to deliver dependable and seamless transport services. This prestigious award follows Qatar Rail's 'Highly Commended' recognition in the same category in 2024 and 2025, marking a significant milestone in its operational performance improvements.
