Doha: The State of Qatar has warned against normalizing the "no war, no peace" status in the region, highlighting that such prolonged instability is depleting resources and hindering the economic and developmental potential of the affected countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the repercussions of this status extend beyond the region, impacting the global economy, supply chains, and international economic stability. These remarks were delivered during a weekly media briefing by the Director of Media and Communications, Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashmi, who discussed Qatar's diplomatic and political efforts to resolve the ongoing political deadlock and create conducive conditions for renewed diplomatic dialogue among the concerned parties.
Al Hashmi emphasized Qatar's active and continuous coordination with regional and international partners to revive negotiations and push for political solutions. He pointed to ongoing cooperation with the People's Republic of China, coinciding with the visit of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani to Beijing.
The primary goal of these diplomatic efforts is to resume dialogue and propose practical, balanced ideas that consider the genuine concerns of all parties, fostering an environment conducive to dialogue and sustainable solutions. Al Hashmi stressed that successful mediation efforts depend on the political will of the concerned parties, affirming that dialogue and peaceful means are the sole options to prevent further regional tension and escalation.
Regarding maritime navigation security and regional economic repercussions, Al Hashmi stated that reopening the Strait of Hormuz is a top priority for Qatar and other regional countries, given its critical role in global trade, energy supplies, and economic stability.
In response to queries about Iran citing a Qatari document to claim restricted strikes to US military facilities, Al Hashmi revealed that Qatar has sent numerous official correspondences to the UN Security Council and General Assembly, documenting Iranian attacks on Qatar, which targeted civilian and economic facilities.
Despite these challenges, Al Hashmi reiterated Qatar's balanced and responsible diplomatic approach, emphasizing the need for dialogue and negotiations to secure regional stability. He underscored the importance of diplomacy and joint work to de-escalate tensions and achieve regional security and stability.
On Israeli statements labeling Qatar as a "hostile state," Al Hashmi highlighted the genocide crimes committed by Israel and its actions in occupied Palestinian territories, which contradict its claims of being the "only democratic state in the Middle East" with a "moral army." He noted Qatar's resilience against smear campaigns and its commitment to international law, maintaining its humanitarian and mediating role responsibly.
Al Hashmi affirmed that Qatar's diplomatic and humanitarian efforts will continue, undeterred by statements aimed at "domestic consumption," as it remains committed to peace, security, and stability at regional and international levels.
