Baku: The State of Qatar is actively participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, with a delegation led by HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie. The event, which acts as a pivotal gathering for global leaders to address pressing climate issues, was inaugurated by HE President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change was present at the opening session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, which saw attendance from numerous world leaders, heads of government, ministers, UN officials, and representatives from civil society organizations. On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister engaged in discussions with several officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan, highlighting Qatar's active diplomatic role in international climate dialogues. The COP29 conferenc e, scheduled to continue until November 22, is set to tackle critical issues such as climate finance, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, climate adaptation, and climate justice. It will also focus on fostering cooperation between the public and private sectors and implementing measures to enhance the transition to renewable energy. Additional discussions are expected to cover advancements in green transportation technologies, biodiversity protection, and evaluations from the COP28 summit. This conference serves as an essential platform for reviewing global progress in combating climate change and formulating new policies aimed at accelerating worldwide climate action. The State of Qatar emphasizes its dedication to addressing climate change, as evidenced by its commitment to international agreements like the Paris Agreement. Qatar National Vision 2030 underscores the country's efforts to diversify its economy, build capacity, and sustainably utilize natural resources in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Qatar has initiated several national policies to address climate change impacts, including the National Climate Change and Environment Strategy, the National Climate Action Plan 2030, and the Third National Development Strategy.
