Qatar Charity Launches Humanitarian Aid Initiative to Sudan

Doha:Qatar Charity has initiated a humanitarian bridge from Qatar to Sudan, in collaboration with Qatar Fund for Development, Hamad Medical Corporation, and Aspetar hospital. This initiative consists of 50 trucks transporting essential medicines and medical supplies to address the increasing health needs due to ongoing conflict in Sudan.

According to Qatar News Agency, the launch ceremony took place at the Gulf Warehousing Company headquarters in Doha. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Qatar to Sudan, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, and the Ambassador of Sudan to Qatar, Badreddine Abdullah. Also present were Yousuf bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity, and representatives from partner organizations in the health and relief sectors.

The humanitarian bridge aims to not only deliver vital medical supplies but also to enhance the capacity of health providers in Sudan to cope with the rapidly increasing demands. Qatar Charity is managing the operational and logistical tasks for transporting the supplies to Sudan.

Sudan is currently facing severe humanitarian and health challenges. Estimates by the World Health Organization reveal that over 20 million people need health assistance, 21 million are experiencing acute food shortages, and about 33.7 million people will require humanitarian aid by 2026.

This initiative is part of Qatar Charity's broader health and humanitarian program for 2026 in Sudan. The organization has conducted various health initiatives, such as cardiac medical camps, surgical operations, cardiac catheterization procedures, and programs for cochlear implants and cataract treatments. These efforts, valued at over QR 1.3 million, have provided critical medical care and bolstered the health sector's capabilities in the targeted regions.

The total value of Qatar Charity's humanitarian projects and interventions in Sudan for 2026 has reached approximately QR 17 million, excluding the assistance provided through the newly launched humanitarian bridge.
