Qatar Charity hosts sponsored children participating in Street Child World Cup

At its headquarters in Doha, Qatar Charity (QC) hosted Sudan and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s teams participating in the Street Child World Cup (SCWC). The hosting of the two teams sponsored under Qatar Charity’s global orphan care initiative ‘Rofaqa’ aims to acquaint them with Qatar Charity and allow them to meet their sponsors.

The hosting event was attended by HE Ahmed Adam Bakheet, Sudan’s Minister of Social Development, HE Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Siwar Al-Dahab, Ambassador of Sudan, HE Abdulah Skaka, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. John Wroe, Founder and CEO of Street Child United, and Mr. Youssef Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity. Besides, several officials from Qatar Charity, many sponsored orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity’s Sudan and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s offices, who are taking part in the SCWC, were also present at the event.

The event included a video presentation showing the two teams’ preparations for the SCWC, currently being held at Qatar Foundation, as well as an introductory presentation on the Rafaqa initiative.

The Largest Family

“Today, you are part of a large family that includes 188,000 children from 40 countries, and hundreds of employees, who work here in this building and around the world to enable you to have your right to education, health, food, and protection,” said Mr. Yousef Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity while addressing the children at the event.

He added that Qatar Charity was established 37 years ago to provide support and assistance to children facing social or economic difficulties and to give them a fair opportunity in education, success, and self-realization.

He explained that the ‘Rofaqa’ initiative has achieved remarkable success by helping tens of thousands of children realize their dreams and aspirations. He emphasized that support will continuously be extended to the children whenever they need help.

Al-Kuwari wished the teams of Sudan and Bosnia and Herzegovina success in the SCWC. He stated that the real purpose of this event is to allow the participants to develop their talents and benefit from this experience to fulfil their dreams and ambitions. He advised the children to focus on their studies and ambitions to build a better future for themselves, as well as for their families, communities, and countries.

He thanked Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) for supporting the Sports for Development and Peace (SDP) initiative, Mr. John Wroe, Founder and CEO of Street Child United, for his organization’s efforts in organizing the SCWC, and Qatar Foundation where it is being held. He also thanked the supporters and sponsors in Qatar.

Mr. Yousuf Abdulla Al-Khulaifi, head of the Child Protection Section at Qatar Charity, expressed his pride in all the effort made by the two teams in preparing for this sporting event, with the aim of shedding light on young people and actively participating in activities that convey their voices to the world through a meaningful educational and cultural experience.

Mr. John Wroe, Founder and CEO of Street Child United, expressed his happiness at participating in this event and Qatar Charity’s cooperation in the SCWC, praising its support for orphans and children around the world in various fields. He added that the SCWC is a world cup of joy, hope, and peace, looking forward to having more engagement with Qatar Charity to bring children from other countries where it works in the Street Child Cricket World Cup, which will take place next year in India.

Live in Dignity

Speaking at the event, Muhammad Al-Shazly Suleiman, a child from the Sudan team thanked the sponsors and Qatar Charity, urging them to continue their support for orphans. He indicated that he and his brother are sponsored by Qatar Charity, which helps them continue their education and live in dignity.

“The visit to Qatar and this event is extremely important, and we hope that we will use the opportunity that has been given to us, will present our country in the most beautiful form, and return home with a won medal, but also a lot of new experience and new friendships, said Mirza Ibrahimpasic, a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team.

Honor

At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Yousef Al-Kuwari presented shields of honor to Mr. John Wroe, as well as to the directors of Qatar Charity’s offices in Sudan and Bosnia and the supervisors of the two teams, in appreciation of their efforts in the teams’ preparation for the SCWC.
