Qatar Charity honors sponsored students at Somalia’s Mogadishu University

Qatar Charity (QC) organized a ceremony to honor 137 male and female sponsored students who graduated from Mogadishu University in Somalia during the 2021-2022 academic year.

 

The ceremony was attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia Hassan bin Hamza Hashim, the Deputy Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, HE Salah Sharif Sayid Ali, and the President of Mogadishu University Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, in addition to a delegation from Qatar Charity headed by Mr. Nawaf Abdullah al-Hammadi, CEO’s assistant for the International Operations and Programs sector at Qatar Charity.

 

At the beginning of the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, praised Qatar Charity’s efforts in the country’s various fields of relief and development, as well as in sponsoring orphans, needy families, people with special needs, students, and teachers.

 

He thanked the benefactors of Qatar and Qatar Charity for sponsoring and supporting the needy students, which enabled them to continue their studies and graduate from the university with degrees in a variety of academic disciplines.

 

He noted that he was one of the students, who were sponsored by Qatar Charity and had previously benefited from the student scholarships.  He indicated that, without the sponsorship, he would not have been able to be a deputy minister and a member of the Somali parliament at present. He stated that he sponsored 20 male and female students to return the favor.

 

Congratulating the graduates, Mr. Nawaf Abdullah al-Hammadi, CEO’s assistant for the International Operations and Programs sector at Qatar Charity, said, “You have reaped the fruits of your efforts by graduating after several-year hard-working, and it is time to experience working life.” He urged them to do their best to achieve excellence in careers to contribute to developing their country and community.

 

Speaking at the ceremony Prof. Dr. Ali Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar, Vice-Chairman of Mogadishu University Board of Trustees, touched on the long-lasting and strong Somali-Qatari relations. He indicated that the role of Qatar Charity is evidently clear through the number of sponsorships, which reached a record number (23,000 sponsored persons, including orphans, needy families, people with special needs, students, and teachers).

 

At the end of the ceremony, a student, Mahdara Omar Othman, thanked the sponsors of Qatar for supporting the sponsored students over the past four years, appreciating the Qatari efforts and Qatar Charity’s role in supporting the people of Somalia and funding and implementing humanitarian and development project for the needy and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

 

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity has so far sponsored 1,936 university students majoring in many disciplines in Somalia.
