London: In a landmark announcement during the State Visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the United Kingdom, the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom have pledged to double their joint humanitarian and development funding to $100 million (79.4 million). This significant increase underscores the deepening partnership between the two nations and their shared commitment to addressing the world's most pressing challenges. According to Qatar News Agency, the enhanced funding will support a range of initiatives aimed at tackling humanitarian crises, promoting sustainable development, and addressing the root causes of irregular migration and displacement. Joint efforts will focus on conflict resolution, education, food security, health, and climate resilience in several countries of mutual interest. Through existing joint funding mechanisms, Qatar and the UK have already delivered significant results, including delivering 17 tonnes of aid to Gaza, supporting children in Northwest Syria to acces s education, and assisting more than 100 vulnerable communities in Somalia recover from conflict, environmental crises, and economic instability. The new funding commitment expands this critical work and will contribute to additional projects, such as strengthening resilience, improving food, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. The joint funding initiative aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, leveraging the combined expertise of Qatar, the UK, and their delivery partners to drive transformative change. HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Mariam Bint Ali Al Misned emphasized Qatar's commitment to global humanitarian and development challenges in collaboration with the UK. By doubling their joint funding to $100 million, both nations aim to deliver real and lasting impact to millions of vulnerable people worldwide. The announcement highlights the growing strategic ties between Qatar and the United Kingdom, symbolizing shared values and a collective determination to build a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable future for all. HE the UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy noted that the collaboration between the two countries has already helped alleviate suffering globally and that this doubling of support will help achieve much more in the coming years. He affirmed that relations between Qatar and the UK have reached new heights to boost trade and investment and help tackle global challenges, including in Gaza, Syria, and Somalia.
