Qatar and Iraq Sign MoU to Boost Economic Cooperation

Doha:Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Qatar-Iraq Joint Business Council. This agreement aims to enhance communication among institutions, organizations, companies, and entrepreneurs in both nations, strengthening bilateral economic relations and cooperation, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises.

According to Qatar News Agency, the signing took place during a meeting between Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al-Thani and Federation President Amer Khalaf Alawi, along with the Iraqi Ambassador to Qatar, Mohammed Jaafar Al Sadr. Discussions focused on increasing cooperation between the two chambers and expanding economic and trade relations. The role of the private sector in investment projects and business partnerships was also highlighted.

The meeting reviewed approximately 60 investment opportunities associated with the Iraqi Development Road project, with an estimated value of $250 billion, spanning sectors such as transport, logistics, manufacturing, energy, mining, agriculture, ICT, real estate, and tourism.

Sheikh Khalifa emphasized the importance of direct communication between business communities in both countries to promote trade and investment, while calling for private sectors to seize opportunities. Amer Alawi expressed the Iraqi delegation's eagerness to strengthen economic ties and explore investment opportunities in Qatar.

Qatari business leaders are also keen to build partnerships with Iraqi counterparts, with presentations at the meeting focusing on trade enhancement and strategic partnerships. These were delivered by key figures including Dr. Malik Al Duraie from the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, Dr. Mohsen Al Hamid from ICC Iraq, and Abdulmutallab Shaghati Ghazai, the Iraqi Prime Minister's Adviser for Corporate Affairs.
