Amman: Airport International Group (AIG) reported that Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed 721,508 passengers in September 2024, marking a 14.2% decrease compared to the same month in 2023. According to Jordan News Agency, the decrease in passenger traffic was accompanied by a reduction in aircraft movements, which totaled 5,956 in September, down 11.9% from 2023. Similarly, cargo handling at QAIA saw a decline, with the airport managing 5,713 tons, a 6.5% decrease compared to the previous year. These figures reflect ongoing challenges in the region that have affected the airport's operations. Despite a challenging September, year-to-date figures for 2024 show a mixed outlook. While passenger numbers for the first nine months fell by 6.4% to 6,790,593, and aircraft movements declined by 5.9% to 56,625, cargo operations experienced growth, rising by 19.2% to 57,753 tons compared to the same period in 2023. AIG CEO, Nicolas Deviller, commented on the situation, stating, "Disruptions caused by re gional tensions, especially in Gaza and Lebanon, have persisted, further impacting our traffic into September. Nevertheless, we remain dedicated to maintaining operational excellence and enhancing our passenger experience. Moving forward, we will continue to build on our airline partnerships and expand our destination offerings, ensuring every passenger enjoys a smooth and welcoming journey that feels like home at Jordan's prime gateway to the world."
