Planning and Statistics Authority Issues 383 Building Permits in April

Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) issued 383 building permits during the month of April 2023, a decrease of 42 percent compared to March 2023.

A statement from the PSA on Wednesday showed that the decrease was noted in all of the municipalities: Al Shammal (70 percent), Um Slal (63 percent), Al Da’ayen (62 percent), Al Sheehaniya (58 percent), Al Rayyan (45 percent), Al Wakrah (37 percent), Al Doha (23 percent), Al Khor (6 percent).

According to their geographical distribution, municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 102 permits, i.e. 27 percent of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 89 permits, i.e. 23 percent, followed by Al Wakrah municipality with 82 permits, i.e.21 percent, then municipality of Al Da’ayen with 48 permits, i.e.13 percent.

The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Al khor 34 permits (9 percent), Um Slal 15 permits (4 percent), Al Sheehaniya 10 permits (3 percent), and finally Al Shammal 3 permits (1 percent).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 39 percent (149 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of April 2023, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 58 percent (221 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3 percent (13 permits).

By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas top the list, accounting for 84 percent (104 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by apartments buildings permits by 9 percent (11 permits) and dwellings of housing loans permits by 6 percent (7 permits).

On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 44 percent (11 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops/factories with 40 percent (10 permits), then governmental buildings with 12 percent (3 permits).

In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of April 2023, according to their geographical distribution, we find that Al Rayyan municipality come at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 75 certificates, i.e. (30 percent) of the total issued certificates, while municipality of Al Da’ayen came in second place with 59 certificates, i.e. (23 percent), followed by municipality of Al Wakrah with 43 certificates (17 percent), then municipality of Al Doha with 28 certificates, i.e.11 percent.

The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 24 certificates 9 percent, Al Khor 13 certificates 5 percent, Al Shammal and Al Sheehaniya 6 certificates 2 percent each municipality.

In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 76 percent (192 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of April 2023, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 24 percent (62 certificates).

By analyzing new residential buildings completion certificates data, we find that villas top the list, accounting for 87 percent (132 certificates) of all new residential buildings completion certificates, followed by apartments buildings by 6 percent (9 certificates), then dwellings of housing loans certificates by 5 percent (8 certificates).

On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates with 50 percent (20 certificates), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 28 percent (11 certificates), then governmental buildings with 18 percent (7 certificates).

Comparing number of certificates issued in April 2023 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 37 percent. This decrease was clearly noted in all of the municipalities: Al Shammal (67 percent), Al Doha (56 percent), Al Wakrah (47 percent), Al Da’ayen (32 percent), Al Khor (28 percent), Al Sheehaniya (25 percent), Al Rayyan (22 percent), Um Slal (20 percent).

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

It is worth mentioning that the release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.
