Palestinian Foreign Ministry Condemns Nauru’s Opening of Embassy in Occupied Jerusalem

Doha: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned Nauru's decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem, saying the move constitutes an assault on the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry stated that the decision serves to entrench the Israeli occupation and its unlawful policies, undermines international consensus, and disregards international legitimacy resolutions governing the legal and historical status of Jerusalem. It emphasized that establishing an embassy in occupied Jerusalem is a direct challenge to the international community's longstanding position on the city and violates UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478.

The ministry also expressed concern that the move encourages Israel to pursue its colonial policies and continue crimes and violations against the Palestinian people, while lending legitimacy to efforts to impose an illegal reality in Jerusalem. It called upon friendly and allied countries, along with regional and international organizations, to assume their responsibilities by rejecting measures that entrench the occupation or legitimize Israel's unlawful control over Jerusalem.

Additionally, the ministry urged the protection of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and support for efforts to end the occupation and establish an independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
