Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, HE Akbar al-Baker, received the ‘2022 Joseph Murphy Award’ by Air Transport World (ATW), an online and print trade publication covering the aviation industry.

He received the award at the ATW’s 48th Annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards ceremony, which was held in Doha on the sidelines of the IATA 78th Annual General Meeting.

The award “recognises al-Baker’s global influence and visionary approach towards the aviation industry, demonstrating strategic thinking and innovative direction in shepherding the growth of Qatar Airways’ business and the wider aviation industry. The phenomenal success of Qatar Airways can be attributed to his strategic management and leadership.”

He has been long known as an industry pioneer, contributing to the sustainable growth of Qatar, and leaving an impact within the country and beyond.

Al-Baker said: “I am truly honoured to receive the ‘2022 Joseph Murphy Award’ by Air Transport World. This was made possible by the concerted efforts of everyone in our company, which is a testament to the resilience of our team who weathered the unprecedented times of the pandemic and continued to deliver our promise of excellence in aviation. We are proud to be the leading global airlines serving the world and will continue to connect our customers to the world.”

Al-Baker is one of the most influential figures in international aviation. Under his leadership, Qatar Airways became the world’s fastest-growing airline, operating one of the youngest and most technologically advanced fleets in the sky.

A widely recognised and well-respected industry innovator, al-Baker is currently a member of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the global aviation industry body International Air Transport Association (IATA) and chairman of oneworld alliance.
