A research team from McGill University in Canada examined the Earth's mantle beneath the Antarctic ice sheet and found it particularly soft in some key areas. The researchers warned of increased ice melting, rising sea levels, and the risk of environmental disasters in the near future. The study suggests that the phenomenon of "post-glacial uplift" would have a massive impact on future global sea level rise, or could make things much worse, depending on the amount of fossil fuels that trap heat and melt ice.
