Nasser Al Attiyah Claims Third Place in 37th Baja Portalegre 500

LISBON — Qatari driver Nasser Al Attiyah finished in third place in the overall standings at the 37th Baja Portalegre 500.

According to a new release by Qatar News Agency, Al Attiyah led the rally during the demonstration stage and the stages of the first day. However, he encountered difficulties on the rally’s second day. Initially finishing in fourth place, Al Attiyah protested a time penalty, which was subsequently cancelled. This adjustment moved him to third place with a total time of 4:58:42.8 hours. Portuguese driver Joao Ferreira, with co-driver Filipe Palmeiro, took the top spot with a time of 4:54:16.3 hours, while Saudi driver Yazeed Al Rajhi and German co-driver Timo Gottschalk placed second.

This event marked the first competition for Al Attiyah and his co-driver Matthieu Baumel in their new car, the BRX Prodrive Hunter. They joined team Prodrive under the name Nasser Racing. Al Attiyah participated in Baja Portalegre 500 as preparation for the upcoming Dakar Rally, which will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in January, serving as the first round of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship.
