Museum of Islamic Art to Be Reopened Next Year

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), one of the pioneering institutions of Islamic art in the world, has announced the launch of MIA-affiliated facilities enhancement project, reimagining, and reinstalling its permanent collection galleries to provide educational and cultural experiences that are more interactive and accessible.

For the purpose of renovation, the Museum has been closed and will be reopened in autumn 2022 ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums, said: “The opening of MIA has constituted a turning point for Qatar, since it marked the State as a new cultural hub in the region. Moreover, it paved the way for establishing other significant museums and galleries and presenting acclaimed exhibitions of local, regional and international artists.”

She added: “As part of our endeavor toward increasing visitation at MIA, we have decided that this is the ideal time to renovate the unique MIA building and display our permanent collection from a new perspective. This is particularly after Doha has become the most famous place as a destination for international sports events and cultural tourism. We will be excited to welcome visitors of the Museum again next year.”
