Doha: The Ministry of Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), organized a youth session focusing on the impact of sports on youth mental health. This initiative was part of the International Youth Day celebrations, which are observed annually on August 12. This year's theme was "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," emphasizing the shared goals of young people globally.
According to Qatar News Agency, the session brought together young individuals interested in sports from various backgrounds. The discussion centered on how physical activity can reduce psychological stress, boost self-confidence, build resilience, and foster positive social relationships. This was achieved through an interactive discussion that combined scientific perspectives and real-life experiences.
Fawaz Al Mesaifri, the Director of the Youth Affairs Department at MSY, stated that this year's theme reflects the aspirations of young people worldwide to build a better future and achieve balanced mental and physical health. He noted that sports are a crucial tool for uniting youth and supporting these common aspirations.
Al Mesaifri added that the Ministry has launched initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of young people and improving their quality of life. He emphasized that mental health is a key pillar of youth empowerment and that sports have become an effective means of promoting psychological balance and positive development.
Amina Al Meer, QOC's Head of the Local Cooperation Unit, stated that the partnership reflects a shared vision of sports as a tool for community development and improving quality of life. She highlighted the Committee's efforts to expand cooperation with national institutions, promote sports culture, and increase youth participation.
The strategic partnership aims to coordinate efforts and implement programs that support young people, raise awareness of mental health, encourage healthy lifestyles, and contribute to building a healthier and more cohesive society.
