Chisinau: Moldova's outgoing President Maia Sandu won a second term in the presidential runoff election held on Sunday. With nearly 98% of votes counted, Sandu had obtained 54% of the total votes, according to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), compared to 46% for her rival former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo. According to Qatar News Agency, in a victory speech delivered at her campaign headquarters in the capital, Chisinau, Sandu declared her win, stating, "Moldova, you are victorious! Today, dear Moldovans, you have given a lesson in democracy." Sandu had previously led the first round of presidential elections on October 20, securing 42.5% of the votes, while Stoianoglo received 26%.
