Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) held a discussion session focused on the inclusion of persons with disabilities, aligning with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated annually on December 3. This session is part of the 'Illuminations' initiative, a platform designed by MoEHE to address specific educational and academic challenges. According to Qatar News Agency, HE Undersecretary of the MoEHE, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, expressed the ministry's commitment to supporting people with disabilities through specially designed projects and curricula tailored to their needs. He emphasized the importance of special needs schools across the country, which include inclusion centers for mild disabilities and specialized institutions like Al Hedaya School for Special Needs, Awsaj Academy, and Renad Academy. Dr. Al Nuaimi also announced plans for a new school set to open next year to accommodate students with severe disabilities who require non-traditional learning methods. Further elaborating on efforts for inclusion, Dr. Al Nuaimi mentioned the MoEHE's equal employment opportunity scheme, which is being coordinated with the Civil Service Bureau and Government Development (CGB). Ali Abdullah Al Hajri, Head of Registration at the CGB's National Recruitment Platform "Kawader," explained that the scheme aims to provide equitable job opportunities and a supportive work environment for people with disabilities, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030. Al Hajri also highlighted the collaborative agreement signed in August 2024 between the CGB and the Assistive Technology Center (Mada). This agreement focuses on promoting innovation, digital accessibility, and ensuring an inclusive work environment for persons with disabilities. The CGB has maintained a government employment rate of no less than two percent for people with disabilities, in partnership with 16 government agencies.
