The Ministry of Social Development hosted a dialogue session on Tuesday titled "Enhancing Women's Participation in Public Life," in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, the Independent Election Commission, and the National Democratic Institute. The session is part of a series of dialogues being conducted at 19 local community centers across most of the Kingdom's governorates. These sessions continue the committee's efforts within the "You Are Half the Country" campaign, which began in mid-August, to boost women's political participation at the governorate level. The training covered legislation supporting women's participation, such as the Election Law, the Political Parties Law, and relevant constitutional amendments, as well as strategies to combat violence against women in public life, its forms, impacts, and prevention. Minister of Social Development and Chair of the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, highlighted the committee's dedication to the outcomes of the Royal Committee for Political Modernization, pointing out the importance of recent developments, including the approval of the election and political parties laws and related constitutional amendments. The committee has been proactive in organizing sessions, activities, and initiatives focused on women, youth, and people with disabilities. Bani Mustafa emphasized the critical role of women in the upcoming elections on September 10, viewing their participation as essential for exercising citizenship and ensuring that societal issues, particularly those concerning women, are prioritized within the decision-making process. She noted that Jordan's scientific advancements have greatly enhanced women's skills, qualifications, and experiences, equipping them to actively participate in public affairs and contribute to decision-making. She further explained that having capable and qualified women in decision-making positions fosters respect for diverse opinions and can positively influence society's perception of women as leaders. Their increased involvement in political activities and presence in legislative roles are vital for amending laws to promote gender equality, ensuring greater oversight, integrity, and transparency.
