Minister of State for International Cooperation Highlights Private-Sector Role in Development Funding

Doha:HE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, hosted a panel discussion on the role of the private sector in funding development in developing countries during the World Investment Forum (WIF) in Doha.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Misnad addressed the challenges in development funding due to the slowdown in official development assistance and a widening financing gap for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which stands at about USD 4 trillion annually.

Dr. Al Misnad emphasized the need to transition from reliance on government funding to effective partnerships that can mobilize private capital for sustainable development impact. She highlighted the importance of using public funds to encourage private investment and the relationship between investment, stability, and peacebuilding.

Dr. Al Misnad also presented three suggestions to enhance development funding setting clear goals to attract private investment, supporting investment-ready projects, and creating financing tools tailored for fragile and conflict-affected nations. She noted that the challenge lies in turning existing funds into productive investments and economic opportunities.

Qatar's experience in mediation and conflict resolution was cited by Dr. Al Misnad as demonstrating stability's importance for attracting investment, with economic development reinforcing peace. She described economic diplomacy as crucial for linking peacebuilding and sustainable development.

Dr. Al Misnad reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to its role as a partner in supporting international development through cooperation, investment, diplomacy, and efforts to promote peace and stability.
