Minister of Culture Inaugurates Ramadan Book Fair at Darb Al-Saai Headquarters in Umm Salal

HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani, inaugurated on Thursday evening the 2nd edition of the Ramadan Book Fair organized by the Ministry of Culture during the period from March 30 to April 5 at Darb Al-Saai headquarters in Umm Salal.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Justice Masoud bin Mohammed Al Ameri, HE Minister of State and Qatar National Library president Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, HE Former Minister of Education Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Turki Al Subaie, HE President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, senior officials of the Ministry of Culture and a gathering of intellectuals.

79 publishing houses and bookstores from inside and outside Qatar are participating in the Ramadan Book Fair, including 18 publishing houses specialized in childrens literature and books. 31 publishing houses are participating from Qatar, along with 48 publishing houses from 14 Arab and foreign countries: Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, UAE, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.

On this occasion, HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani said that the Ramadan Book Fair is a rich extension of a cultural year full of activities and events that influenced the Qatari cultural scene and contributed to spreading the values of creativity and innovation. It also opened broader horizons for constructive intellectual dialogue on many issues of concern to intellectuals, creators, and several segments of society.

His Excellency added that Ramadan Book Fair is one of the good contributions in terms of cultural growth, as it is a privileged space for supporting publishing houses and considered as an important link between writers and the reading public.

His Excellency stressed that this cultural event is characterized by the diversity of its activities that includes productive families, and cultural and religious seminars, expressing his confidence that the book fair will witness a large number of visitors, as they will find in it a rich mixture of culture and benefit.

On the hosting of Darb Al-Saai headquarters for the Ramadan Book Fair in its second edition, His Excellency said Darb Al-Saai has become a major destination for cultural, heritage and social activities in the country, as it being prepared with all means and equipment to receive such events, which will continue.
