Tunis: A boat carrying immigrants sank off the Tunisian coast while heading toward Europe, resulting in 13 individuals missing. The vessel, which had 15 Tunisians onboard, primarily from the Ben Guerdane area, met with disaster after setting sail at dawn.
According to Qatar News Agency, Mustafa Abdel Kabir, the head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, reported that the boat sank at sea, leading to a search operation. Rescuers managed to save two individuals, one of whom is in critical condition.
Houssem Eddine Jebabli, spokesperson for the National Guard, mentioned that Coast Guard units, supported by an aircraft and naval units, are actively conducting search operations for the missing individuals. The boat reportedly sank approximately 14 nautical miles off the coast of Zarzis. The circumstances of the accident and the final count of those missing remain under investigation.
