Meeting highlights efforts to enhance women’s empowerment

Regional network to support gender equality and equal opportunities and their access to leadership positions in the public sector on Monday met in Amman to discuss ways to empower women and increase their access to government leadership positions.

In a statement, Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), said the network, whose membership includes Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, aims to provide opportunities for training, education and support for women in all fields.

The network also seeks to raise societal awareness of the importance of gender equality and women-related challenges in reaching leadership and decision-making positions, the statement noted.

Speaking at the meeting, JNCW assistant for technical affairs, Nisreen Sayed, noted importance of supporting women’s access to decision-making positions in political, economic and public sectors and increasing their participation in public life, in line with the outcomes of Jordan’s three modernization tracks.

Secretary General of Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs (MPPA), Ali Khawaldeh, said MPPA launched educational and awareness programs to stimulate Jordanian women to participate in political, party activities and elections to reach decision-making positions.

Tala Khreis, Country Director Jordan in Forum of Federations Project, said: “We are committed to cooperating and coordinating with all partners to achieve goals in promoting a culture of equality and empowerment of women in society. We believe that women are an essential element in achieving sustainable development and social and economic prosperity.”
