The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) organized a workshop on detecting radioactive materials at the Abu Samra border crossing to ensure the readiness of national cadres to deal with radiological and nuclear materials.
In a statement, the ministry said that this workshop, which was implemented by the Radiation Protection Department at MECC, comes within the framework of cooperation between MECC and the competent authorities at the Abu Samra border crossing.
The workshop aimed to introduce the mechanism of dealing with radioactive sources and how to detect them and determine their locations, as well as the optimal use of radiation detection gates, and the practical training on the use of measuring devices to detect radioactive sources and materials.
This workshop is part of a series of training exercises implemented by the Radiation Protection Department for workers at border crossings to deal with radiation detection gates with the highest radiation safety standards in the State of Qatar.
It is worth noting that the MECC is keen to organize such training courses on an ongoing basis to ensure efficiency in supervisory work, which contributes to increasing capabilities during the process of careful inspection of all shipments imported into the State of Qatar.
