Marking World Cancer Day, Health Ministry says cases up by 5.5% in Palestine in 2021 compared to 2020

RAMALLAH, Marking World Cancer Day, which coincides today, the Ministry of Health said recorded cases in Palestine in 2021 showed an increase of 5.5 percent compared to 2020.

It said 5320 new cancer cases were discovered in 2021, an average of 108.1 cases per 100,000 people.

The Ministry said cancer is the third cause of death in Palestine.

It said that while the West Bank had 119.6 cases per 100,000 people in 2021, the Gaza Strip had 92.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Breast cancer is the most common among women in Palestine at a rate of 36.2 cases per 100,000 women, followed by colon cancer, mainly among males, and third lung cancer. Children’s most common cancer is leukemia.
