Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Strikes Japan’s Izu Islands

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck the southern part of the Japanese Izu Islands for the second time in one day.

Japan Meteorological Agency said in a report that the earthquake occurred this morning at a depth of 10 kilometers underwater near the uninhabited island of Bonavidina.

There is no immediate information about human or material losses as a result of the earthquake.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency had previously announced that a 6.6-magnitude earthquake had struck the eastern coast of Japan.

Japan issued a warning of a tsunami with a height of one meter for the islands located off the Izu Peninsula on the east coast of the country.

Earlier, tsunami waves 30 centimeters high were seen on the coast of the volcanic island of Hachijojima.

Japan, located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
