Doha:An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean on Monday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 71 kilometers from the Ohonoa area, and at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Tonga, an archipelago of 176 islands, is located northwest of New Zealand and Australia, with only 52 of these islands inhabited.
