Paris: The Louvre Museum in Paris reopened its iconic Apollo Gallery to visitors Wednesday, months after it was shuttered following a brazen heist that targeted the royal jewels collection last October. According to Qatar News Agency, the gallery is now welcoming the public again, but without displaying the priceless artifacts and historic treasures that were once housed there. In a statement, the Louvre said the reopening doesn't mark the return of the stolen jewels to their original display area. The museum removed the display cases and platforms used to showcase the royal treasures, allowing visitors to explore the gallery's architectural grandeur and artistic significance as one of the Louvre Palace's most remarkable historic masterpieces. The statement added that the gallery will remain, during this transitional phase, an open space where visitors can discover its rich history and artistic heritage while authorities determine the fate of the stolen items. The priority, the statement said, remains compl eting the ongoing investigation and strengthening security measures to protect the museum's world-renowned collections and valuable holdings. The gallery is considered one of the Louvre's most iconic wings. Built in the 17th century during the reign of King Louis XIV, it is renowned for its royal decorations, unique paintings, and sculptures. Its architectural design later inspired the famous Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. It was hit by an unprecedented and brazen heist on October 19, when thieves stole several rare royal jewels, including pieces linked to the history of the French monarchy and the empire. French authorities continue their investigation to identify those responsible and recover the stolen items, whose historical value is considered priceless.
