Lebanese Prime Minister Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Rebuilding South

Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reaffirmed his government’s commitment to rebuilding the South, which was devastated by the recent Israeli war. In his remarks, the Prime Minister noted that the long-awaited reconstruction aid has been delayed, adding that an international conference will soon be convened to secure necessary funding for reconstruction and the safe return of residents to their homes in the South.

According to Qatar News Agency, Salam mentioned that the Lebanese government continues to rally regional and international political and diplomatic support to compel the Israeli entity to fulfill its obligations, end its repeated aggressions against Lebanese territory, and fully withdraw from the South.

Salam observed that the region is witnessing historic transformations that transcend geography and changes that open new horizons for stability, yet also carry significant risks and challenges. He added that, in light of these regional and international developments, particularly the recent meetings, including the Sharm El-Sheikh Conference, which signal the onset of a new phase, Lebanon remains steadfast in its natural position and role within its Arab and international surroundings.

In a report published last March titled “Lebanon Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment 2025,” the World Bank estimated the country’s reconstruction and recovery needs following the war at around 11 billion US dollars.
