Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, discussed Friday stopping the humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged Gaza Strip asthe Israeli war on Gaza intensifies.Safadi said during talks with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in Amman and in contacts with a number of his counterparts, that delivering humanitarian aid to the elderly, children and women of Gaza is a collective international moral and legal responsibility.He said that preventing food, medicine, fuel and humanitarian aid is a war crime according to the Fourth Geneva Convention and a violation of international law.He said that condemning the killing and targeting of civilians by both sides is a position around which the international community must unite on in keeping with common humanitarian values and international law, noting that this is an Arab position confirmed by the Arab countries at the foreign ministers’ meeting last Wednesday.Safadi warned that violence and war would not bring security and peace, but rather destruction, misery and suffe
ring, “fueling conflict, increasing tension, and fueling extremism.”He said that a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution is the only way to protect the region from the escalation of conflict and the devastation of wars, which guarantees security and peace for the Palestinians and Israel.He discussed the “need” to launch immediate and continuous international action to stop the escalation and war on Gaza, protect civilians, deliver aid and work to start negotiations to achieve peace based on the two-state solution so that an independent, sovereign state with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital can live on the lines of June 4, 1967.Safadi stressed that every day that passes without stopping the escalation and war and stopping the humanitarian catastrophe would see the suffering of innocent people and put the future of the entire region on the path of conflict, violence and instability.Safadi and Tajani discussed ways to work together to stop the deterioration.
