Amman: Minister of Government Communications and Government's Official Spokesperson, Muhannad Mubaideen, highlighted the "pivotal" role of the Jordan News Agency (Petra) as a "cornerstone" of Jordanian media, delivering "reliable and accurate" official news. The event was attended by Petra's Director General Fairouz Mubaideen, Board members, former ministers, secretaries-general, directors of official media institutions, and a gathering of media professionals. Deputizing for Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh at the 55th anniversary celebration of Petra, Mubaideen noted: "Petra continues to provide timely news, photographs, updates, and investigative journalism about Jordan, as well as coverage of Arab and international affairs, which enriches our daily understanding." Reflecting on Petra's establishment in July 1969, amidst challenging regional circumstances, Mubaideen underscored its "vital" role in shaping Jordan's narrative. The minister noted the agency's emergence during the nation-building era of the 1960s, which coincided with the establishment of key national institutions, primarily University of Jordan and the Central Bank of Jordan, fostering a cadre of political, administrative, and scientific elites. Also recalling the era of the late King Hussein bin Talal, Mubaideen recounted the agency's humble beginnings with basic equipment, symbolizing Jordan's resilience in making achievements despite resource constraints. The minister reiterated Jordan's commitment to security, stability, and its "pivotal" role in supporting the Palestinian cause and safeguarding religious sites in Jerusalem. Mubaideen highlighted Petra's evolution under King Abdullah II's leadership, embracing technological advancements to become a "distinguished" Arab and regional news agency. Since 2012, he noted Petra has housed the Journalism Training Center of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), offering specialized training in journalistic practices to state employees and university students. Closing his remarks, Mubaide en commended the dedication of Petra's staff over the past fifty-five years, recognizing the contributions of former information ministers, directors, journalists, and administrators, along with retired employees who have left enduring legacies in Petra's development. Meanwhile, Director General Fairouz Mubaideen reiterated Petra's commitment to journalistic excellence, describing it as a national asset in Arab media history. She expressed optimism for Petra's future contributions, driven by the dedication and determination of its diverse team. Vice President of the Jordan Press Association, Jamal Ishtewi, affirmed Petra's steadfastness in promoting Jordan's achievements across political, social, and economic sectors for over five decades. He praised Petra's role as a beacon of professionalism and called for governmental support to enhance the professional path for official media. During the anniversary ceremony, the minister honored long-serving Petra employees and toured a photo exhibition chronicling Pe tra's historical milestones and pivotal events in Jordan's journey.
