The Drug Security Committee at Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) approved registration of 63 different types of drugs, including life-saving medicines, which "are not available" for chronic diseases, heart and cancer treatment. In a JFDA statement Sunday, based on the issuance of the drug registration instructions for achieving drug-based security for the year 2024, a total of 107 requests were submitted to the administration for registration purposes to achieve Jordan's drug security. The statement added that applications were sent to the JFDA's Drug Security Committee by 20 drug warehouses and 1 local drug manufacturing company. JFDA Director General, Dr. Nizar Mheidat, noted since its formation last February until now, the committee has assessed the technical files of the medical preparations and decided to approve registration of 63 different drug types, as a certificate was issued for 36 drug types. Meanwhile, he noted some applications are still processed to complete the necessary documents , adding that the outcomes of the committee's work aligns with the organization's vision of enhancing Jordan's drug security and registering new types to achieve Economic Modernization Vision. Mheidat added that the drugs submitted for registration purposes emerged in the list of unavailable medicines aimed to achieve drug security, which the organization is constantly working to update, as per drug inventory indicators. The JFDA also works to stimulate local pharmaceutical companies to manufacture and register medicines that may see shortage during supply to the local market, and grant priority in registration, inspection and the necessary technical consultations, he pointed out.
