Japan’s Nikkei Index Sees Significant Gains Led by AI and Financial Stocks

Tokyo:Japan's Nikkei index rose 2 percent on Wednesday, driven by gains in AI-related stocks and economically sensitive sectors benefiting from lower oil prices.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei index increased by 1.94 percent to close at 66,753.72 points, briefly surpassing a 2 percent rise. The broader Topix index also saw a rise of 1.67 percent, closing at 4,108.65 points.

In the financial sector, bank stocks showed strong performance, with Mizuho Financial Group gaining 4.52 percent. Shares of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group also increased by more than 3 percent.

Technology investments contributed to the rise, with SoftBank Group climbing 6.55 percent. Tokyo Electron, a chip-making equipment manufacturer, saw its shares rise by 2.69 percent, while Advantest, known for manufacturing chip-testing equipment, experienced a 1.03 percent increase. Fujikura, a producer of optical fiber cables, also rose significantly by 5.94 percent.
