Dr. Al Ansari emphasized the hope of the State of Qatar for increased international pressure to implement the second phase of the accord.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Ansari noted during a weekly press briefing that the recent declaration by Hamas marks a breakthrough in the ceasefire agreement, placing the onus on Israel to fulfill its commitments. Qatar, in collaboration with international partners, aims to transition to the plan's second phase, as outlined by the US President.
Dr. Al Ansari explained Qatar's ongoing mediation efforts with the United States, Egypt, and Turkiye, amidst continuing violence in Gaza and the West Bank. He called for a robust international response to the escalating attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
Qatar supports measures by friendly nations against Israeli violations in Gaza, as highlighted by a joint statement from several countries' foreign ministers. Dr. Al Ansari indicated that practical steps will be announced soon.
He also addressed the visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman to Qatar, emphasizing its significance in US-Iran negotiations and lauding Oman's efforts for regional de-escalation. The importance of restoring navigation freedom through the Strait of Hormuz was underscored as a priority.
Regarding regional defense agreements, Dr. Al Ansari welcomed cooperative efforts to enhance security and stability, reaffirming Qatar's strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan. He stressed the collective responsibility for regional security and coordination.
On US economic pressures on Iran, Dr. Al Ansari reiterated the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and support ongoing negotiations, underscoring Qatar's commitment to mediation and regional security.
