Yaroun: Two mortar shells, possibly illumination flares, struck a helicopter landing zone and the main gate of a United Nations site southwest of the town of Yaroun in southern Lebanon, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported in a statement on Tuesday. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. According to Qatar News Agency, UNIFIL has submitted a ceasefire request to the Israeli military, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of peacekeeping forces and urging an end to actions that jeopardize their lives and operational sites. The statement highlighted that any threats to peacekeepers are viewed as serious violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which could destabilize the efforts for peace that these forces are striving to reinforce. Additionally, on Monday, UNIFIL reported that three Israeli tanks had breached one of its surveillance points in the town of Sarda, also in southern Lebanon. The tanks fired three rounds, with two la nding approximately 150 meters from a UNIFIL patrol. Similar to the incident in Yaroun, no casualties or damages were recorded.
