The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has issued a new study on "Legislative Mechanisms for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property in Arab Countries," with the aim of strengthening the laws necessary to protect cultural property. The study provides a diagnosis of the current legal and legislative situation related to combating trafficking in cultural property in Arab countries, and an analysis of international experiences, which will help coordinate and exchange experiences between countries in the field of protecting cultural property. The study is scheduled to be followed by other studies covering ISESCO member states in the Asian and African regions, to combat the threats facing cultural property, and preserve the identities of the peoples of the Islamic world and their civilizational values. The study comes within the framework of the project "ISESCO Strategy for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property in the Islamic World," adopted by the 1 2th session of the Conference of Culture Ministers of the Islamic World, held in September 2023 in the Qatari capital, Doha. ISESCOs strategy is based on three main axes: "legislative mechanisms and necessary legal guarantees, executive mechanisms related to maintenance, restoration and protection, and international cooperation to ensure the recovery of property and the prosecution of criminals."
