Iraq Is Close To Contract With The Portuguese Queiroz To Lead The National Team

Baghdad – The normalization body in the Iraqi Football Association is close to contract with the Portuguese coach Queiroz to succeed Slovenian coach Srecko Katanec,, leading the Iraqi national team in the decisive qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

A source close to normalization told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): “Normalization has distinguished between three coaches who have respectable resumes and led teams that have weight and have previous experiences in the World Cup, but the Portuguese Queiroz is more likely.”

He said: “the normalization body has approached the coach for a while, negotiations are underway, and there is consensus between the two parties, and it is hoped that the deal will be announced within a maximum period of two days.”

He pointed out: ” normalization body is racing against time to finally choose a coach to lead the team, as the Iraqi team is betting on the remaining period to prepare well for the qualifiers, since the Premier League is nearing completion.”

It is noteworthy that the former coach of the national team, Srecko Katanec, announced the end of his contract with the team and apologized for continuing the journey./End
