GORD and Barzan University College Sign MoU to Promote Sustainability in Education and Research

Doha: The Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Barzan University College (BUC), a Qatar-based institution affiliated with Swinburne University of Technology. This collaboration focuses on enhancing sustainability practices, research, and capacity building within the academic sector.

According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU was signed during a ceremony at BUC's Doha campus by GORD's Founding Chairman, Dr. Yousef Alhorr, and BUC's Vice Chairman, Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham. This agreement emphasizes a shared commitment to the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to weave sustainability into Qatar's higher education framework and prepare future leaders for global climate challenges.

Dr. Yousef Alhorr highlighted the pivotal role of universities in fostering sustainable societies through academic and operational leadership. He noted that the collaboration with BUC aims to promote environmental responsibility within educational settings, enhance BUC's sustainability performance, and align with the Qatar National Vision 2030 by raising ESG awareness and nurturing innovation.

Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham stated that the partnership leverages GORD's global expertise to help BUC achieve its mission of "Learn, Lead, Transform." He emphasized that sustainability is integral to BUC's vision and academic environment, serving as a catalyst for innovation and a key component in all student training. The partnership with GORD will enable BUC to adopt internationally recognized sustainability standards and expedite its sustainability objectives.

The MoU outlines GORD's commitment to work with BUC in implementing the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) standards across BUC's facilities, further solidifying the college's dedication to sustainability.
