Gaza Strip Women Face Dire Circumstances Amid Ongoing Conflict

Gaza:Undersecretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs in the Gaza Strip, Amira Haroun, has reported significant challenges faced by Palestinian women due to the ongoing Israeli aggression since October 2023. Haroun highlighted the severe impact on women and girls, with approximately 50,000 having been killed or seriously injured.

According to Qatar News Agency, Haroun detailed that over 38,000 women and girls have been documented as killed, while an additional 11,700 have sustained serious injuries that have resulted in permanent disabilities. She emphasized that despite a ceasefire in October 2025, Israeli violations have continued, resulting in the deaths of more than 277 women and girls in 2025 alone.

Haroun further revealed that the number of households headed by women has increased significantly to approximately 123,588. This rise is attributed to the deaths of primary breadwinners, income collapse, and property destruction. Additionally, the humanitarian situation remains dire, with around 702,000 women and girls experiencing severe food insecurity.

The health impacts have been profound, with 4,000 miscarriages reported among pregnant women in the first half of the year, a threefold increase from the latter half of 2023. The conditions have also resulted in 71,846 orphaned children and 258,927 displaced families residing in inadequate shelters.

Haroun also addressed the issue of female detainees, noting that over 800 women have been arrested by Israeli authorities since October 2023. As of last October, 90 Palestinian women were held in Israeli prisons. She stressed the urgent need for international intervention to stop the aggression and provide protection to women and their families.

In her appeal, Haroun called on international bodies and relief organizations to expand social protection and offer financial and relief assistance to those affected, particularly female heads of households and widows. She emphasized the necessity for enhanced shelter services, psychosocial support, and legal counseling for survivors of violence.
