Gaza Agreement: A Victory for the Will of Peace

Doha: The newspapers in Qatar have praised the successful mediation efforts led by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the United States, and Turkiye to broker an agreement between Hamas and Israel, aimed at ending the war in Gaza after 734 days of conflict against the Palestinian people.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq highlighted this agreement under the title “Gaza Agreement: A Victory for the Will of Peace,” emphasizing the efforts spearheaded by Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye, and US President Donald Trump. The newspaper sees this as a crucial step toward ending the conflict, saving lives, and alleviating the suffering of civilians and detainees. It regards the agreement as a beacon of hope for a lasting truce and a revival of the political process aimed at achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution. Al-Sharq underscores the importance of this progress for the Palestinian people, enabling them to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions.

Al-Watan, under the headline “A Leading Qatari Role,” expressed optimism about the ongoing mediation efforts, hoping they will ensure the implementation of the newly reached agreement. This includes a prisoner exchange and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. The paper highlighted Qatar’s reputation as a genuine peacemaker and its prominent role in international negotiations, particularly in efforts to end hostilities in Gaza. It described the new agreement as a significant first step toward a permanent ceasefire and ending the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people. It emphasized the need for sustained regional and international efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace that secures the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Al-Watan further noted the global anticipation for the full implementation of the agreement, including the immediate lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Peninsula English daily, in its editorial titled “Peace at Last,” remarked on the failure of Israel to achieve its declared objectives despite a two-year military campaign against Gaza. The newspaper noted the destruction and human suffering caused by the war, describing it as a grave moral and humanitarian test for the international community. It highlighted Israel’s persistence in its campaign, despite global calls for a ceasefire, and its eventual return to the negotiating table. The paper stressed that all wars conclude with dialogue and agreement, as seen in the recent talks in Sharm El-Sheikh mediated by US President Donald Trump, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye. It also pointed out the potential revelations of unprecedented atrocities and the use of prohibited weapons and methods of warfare once the war concludes.
