FM receives UNRWA Commissioner-General, calls Greek counterpart

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, on Tuesday received Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini.The meeting covered humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the disruption of the UNRWA’s ability to provide its services to refugees due to the serious escalation and continuation of the war on Gaza.Safadi called for protecting civilians whose killing and targeting are condemned by international laws while efforts continue to stop the escalation and end the war on Gaza, in order to avoid their repercussions on the entire region.Safadi added that the Kingdom has begun preparing aid to be sent to the Palestinian people, in implementation of directives of His Majesty King Abdullah to send urgent humanitarian and medical aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, in full and advance coordination with Egypt, as well as identifying the required needs of the Palestinians in the West Bank and providing them as quickly as possible.Safadi underscored t
he centrality of UNRWA’s humanitarian role in In delivering humanitarian aid to the brotherly Palestinian people in Gaza and Jordan’s full support for it, calling for immediately allowing the entry of humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza, and removing all obstacles that restrict the UN agency’s role.Lazzarini breifed Safadi on UNRWA’s great challenges and its financial difficulties that limit its ability to carry out its basic humanitarian role in Gaza.Safadi and Lazzarini agreed to continue cooperating in exerting efforts to provide the necessary support that the UNRWA needs to enable it to provide its vital services in Gaza.In addition, the Foreign Minister, in a phone call with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis discussed efforts to stop the serious escalation and war on Gaza, protecting the entire region from its impacts, creating a real horizon for resolving the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, and achieving a just and lasting peace that guarantees security and stability.
