Five Workers Die in Mine Collapse in Manisa

Manisa:Five workers have died following a mine collapse in the western Turkish province of Manisa. The local authorities reported that the incident occurred with seven workers present in the mine on Thursday.

According to Qatar News Agency, rescue teams quickly responded and were able to rescue two workers from the debris shortly after the collapse. Unfortunately, the bodies of three additional workers were later recovered from the site, raising the total number of fatalities to five.

Turkiye's Justice Minister, Akin Gurlek, announced that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse. Three prosecutors have been appointed to lead the inquiry. The town of Soma in Manisa has a tragic history of mining disasters, being the site of Turkiye's deadliest mining incident in 2014, which claimed 301 lives due to carbon monoxide poisoning following an underground fire.
