Five Injured in Russian Missile Attack on Central Ukraine

Five people were injured in a missile attack carried out by Russian forces on the Cherkasy region in central Ukraine.

Rescue operation is ongoing as one person is under the rubble, Ukrainian news agency (Ukrinform) reported Thursday.

“As a result of the work of air defenses, debris fell in the central part of the city. In particular, a social infrastructure facility was damaged,” Ukrinform said.

In a separate incident, Ukraine’s air defense forces intercepted 20 Russian targets over Kyiv and its suburbs this morning.

“Missile debris fell in several districts of the capital. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, there is damage to a gas pipe. According to preliminary information, there was no fire. In the Darnytskyi district, non-residential premises and parked cars were damaged by debris. There is a fire. Information on casualties and destruction is being clarified!” Ukrinform quoted head of the Kyiv city military administration Serhii Popko as saying.

Ukrainian authorities have also reported a series of explosions in Kyiv and Kharkiv, leaving some neighborhoods without water and electricity, without causing any human casualties.

Russia began a military operation in Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, and it is still ongoing, with no signs of an end. This is happening amidst significant divergence of positions of the conflicting parties and the involvement of other international actors in the crisis.
